Hi @Former-Member
Mindfulness and grounding techniques are really helpful to get you to a point where you can break things down hour by hour.
It's about getting that swirling washing machine to slow down.
Do you have any mindfulness or grounding techniques that have worked in the past?
Do other members have any suggestions on grounding techniques that have worked for them?

Hi @Former-Member, I'm going to be around now until my forum curfew so I will ride the wave with you if you like. I saw that @NikNik was asking for suggestions about grounding. Often when I am riding a wave, I lie prostrate on the carpet in my loungeroom and verbally stim (which is basically making a long continous sound). I find that it super helps. Granted, if I do it in public, people tend to call emergency services on me, but it works super well in the privacy of my own home. I also rock a lot - either sitting up or lying down. I find it calming. Within the last year or so, I've also discovered that focusing on learning something (not important study-type learning, just random stuff learning) seems to draw on a different part of my brain such that the big feelings gradually feel less big. This might fall more under the category of distraction rather than grounding I guess, I'm not sure. However, it has really got me through some dreadful episodes of severe depression in the past year...and as a bonus, I can now recite the Greek alphabet!!!
I will ride with you tonight @Former-Member.
