Re: My Hospital Stay

So glad you have found a good doctor and have been given some nice meds to make you relax and giggle!!! Sounds like you really deserve something nice after the hell you have been put through. Have fun with the oldies - sorry you missed bingo! 14 days... that must feel like a relief to have that all approved and booked in. xxx @utopia

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @utopia - glad you are getting some leisure time and the happy pills have arrived Smiley Very Happy Do they have group programmes you can attend? You might as well take advantage of everything on offer while you are there. Hope the food is good too... take care

Re: My Hospital Stay

My new psychiatrist is furious with my Old Bugger shrink. She would have automatically increased my original AD & then if I needed it - she would have added a different type of drug - similar to an AD but working on a different pathway of the brain.
But in all honesty - I can't remember what she said. I told her at the time - that I felt like a zombie

Re: My Hospital Stay

@Zoe7 @Kurra. I don't mind the side effects today really. The new psychiatrist just wants me to be able to sleep through and have as little anxiety as is medically possible at the moment. At least for a few days. She is more concerned about the effects the past week has had on my brains ability to cope. So she/we/I will gibe my brain a solid break and rest - before we start on the "why did you choose alcohol to try not to feel" - "what were the initial triggers" - etc.

my psychiatrist is trying to get work cover to do a once off and allow me to have a single room. Would be a miracle if she pulls that off.
She has asked me not to do any groups this week. Next week (because we don't have groups on weekends) - then I can do some groups. I can of course participate in the over 65's groups - or some of them - bingo - art / craft.
I'd started getting some benefits from the groups at the old hospital last week. 2 AHA moments. So once my brain has had a chance to 'sleep & relax' - then I can restart my healing again. And while I'm in hospital - with a proper psychiatrist - it's the perfect time to work on the meds.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Glad that the new psychiatrist has your back @utopia and that the meds are helping you to relax. Hope you have a good night.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @utopia - I don't know why the old bugger changed your meds. If something isn't working the first option is to increase the dosage and then if still no effect try augmenting it with a different med to assist - I am guessing that is what your doc is trying. My psychistrist is doing that with me now. I'm up to med number five for the year and what he has given me now to take at night is the first one that has shown promise.

Always a bad plan changing meds when there are significant life changes going on - best to keep everything as stable as possible when there are disruptions in life. I've been on medication on and off for thirty years so I am well accustomed to the joys of withdrawal / tapering up-down / dosage trial and error. My liver must hate me for all the chemicals it's had to process over the years Smiley Embarassed

Do you have to mingle with the seniors or can you hang out with the "young folks"? It all sounds pretty relaxed which is a good thing - you could really do with a rest. Have a good night and take it easy.

Re: My Hospital Stay

I think hanging out with the oldies might be nice - I hang out with older people all day at work (in a nursing home) and I swear it's the only thing that keeps me going right now!
@Former-Member that makes sense. I was wondering what I've gone from being on one to twelve tablets. And my doc didn't want to cease the original one "just in case"

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi all

@utopia @zoe @Former-Member @Kurra @Former-Member @TheVorticon

Hi Utopia, I am so glad to hear that you are now on a ward with a decent psychiatrist who will listen and ensure that your treatment is right for you.

Just do as the medication, your overwhelmed mind and the nurses suggest. Lotsa Doona time and rest.

Many thoughts Bast

Thanks @TheVorticon @outlander @Bast @Former-Member @Former-Member.
I enjoy some mixing in this older ward. Although I'm the sloppiest dressed person on the ward. But I have my meals in with all patients - while the 'oldies' eat up here.
I too used to work in aged care. Loved it. The Dementia Wing was my passion.
Smoko courtyard is full of young, hip people and those like me (gulp) - middle aged.
I'm off to bed.
I hope everyone has a dreamless peaceful sleep
