I think it's important to share these stories. Both of racism and perceived racism & the struggles that sometimes occur due to the colour of skin.
My son and his friend (son anglo indian. Friend anglo Japanese) went to a football training session specifically targeted towards those from non English speaking backgrounds.
The boys discovered reverse racism. They were perceived to be too white. The coaches concentrated on the other boys and my two were left out of a lot of the activities.
I thought it was a good learning experience for both boys as to what some people experience on a daily basis.

I experienced racism towards my daughter over a bilingualism issue ..... was gobsmacked ..... but it gave me a taste of what my hubby and his family experienced when they immigrated here ..... the Australian “welcome mat” as it was then ...... sheesh !!

And that is what our First People are subject to in their own country ..... First. People. Here. ...... original land-keepers ...... it’s not rocket science .....

It's a real shame the boys had to experience that @utopia.  Racism is racism which ever way it goes.  Sorry for your daughter's experience too @Faith-and-Hope.

Thankyou so much for your thoughtful words @Appleblossom and beautiful flowers again.  I've had to revisit my story so often in recent times between therapy and reports/statements for the hearing, one more time can't hurt.  It means a lot to have compassionate feedback as opposed to none, telling it here does help.

@eth. It gave me a chance to talk to the boys about racism. How it felt. What it might be like to experience that on an everyday occurance. I think the boys got more from it than they would have if we'd just spoken on the subject and they hadn't experienced it first hand.
They are used to a certain amount of joking around by their friends about their heritage. But both boys just say it how it is. Explain and move on.

Glad you agree with the topic @utopia Given it was not too distressing and the boys had each other and you to process it with, maybe you all managed to turn it into positive social learning.

The mood about diversity of race is very different now to what was standard fare 1960s etc, but its not all progress if things get too heated too quickly, without issues being worked through.

A lot of racism in our larger nearby town @Appleblossom. New refugees from 2 countries and a growing muslim culture. Such a shame.
But then there are amazing people who organise cross cultural events. Lots of delicious food to try. Wonderful people to meet.

Getting really irritated. Getting anxious. Getting bloody annoyed.
Mums appointment was for 1.50pm. We drove through the worst traffic jam ever (union protest) but still made it here on time.
Just asked the clerk when mum will be going in. She said the doctors were late and didn't get here til 2.30. I said so why didn't you tell us. She said, in her smarmy voice 'everyone knows theres a wait each time you come here. I said we've never been here before, so how would we know if you haven't bothered to tell us.
I said, you still haven't said when my mum will be seen.
She says - oh there's 3 in front of her.
Then the first doctor comes out and takes a patient in.
Doctor got here one hour late. Then don't take the first patient for another 30 minutes.
And this chick at the counter doesn't have any customer service skills to let us know there is a long delayStill waiting for mum to go in.

That's so frustrating @utopia. Terrible customer service the receptionist has. I hope your mum gets seen soon.
