Dec's Guide to the Night Sky for Amateur Astromomers - including Melbourne weather

Re: Dec's Guide to the Night Sky for Amateur Astromomers - including Melbourne weather

None of us organising it have that ability either @Owlunar - which is no drama at all Smiley Very Happy

I would be happy for you to do some catering - anything full moonish and spooky - did we mention it is a spooky costume party - just in case I hadn't I now have again. I will tag you into the Secret Party Planning thread when I get started and we can post things there to carry over to the party thread we create for the night. In the meantime you can search for whatever you thing would be good for the catering for the night - anything goes on party nights lol

Re: Dec's Guide to the Night Sky for Amateur Astromomers - including Melbourne weather

@Owlunar is a southerly type wind. We get all the ice cold winds from further south and the mountains. I had an update about 9ish and near me it was an 85k wind gust and another place (abit further away) had 100k wind gusts. Its not a storm its juat wind. It was sunny today and tomorrow as well just blowing a gale.

If i was to walk outside im sure i would see the stars but blow away in the meantime!
The power is still on here thankfully but we have torches and battery packs for phone chargers as well.

I started having a look at what I could do and I have pics in my desktop of the moon and the planets - I could decorate cakes with them and I started an Album called Full Moon Party with a pic of green cheese

This could be really fun - I will sort stuff out and keep it until you tag me in

Sounds like you are on top of it @Owlunar - that is a great project for you and something you can do to get organised when you need a distraction - that is the great thing about a forum party - we all bring our own talents together to create something uplifting and fun - way to go Dec Heart

Re: Dec's Guide to the Night Sky for Amateur Astromomers - including Melbourne weather

Thanks @Zoe7

This is a really great time for a creative exercise - next week starts with my cousin's anniversary and my mother's birthday and another date so it's a God-send to have an exercise right now

My annus horribilis ends in August - the anniversaries run out before then but they are not all bad dates - my daughter and her husband have their 25th Wedding Anniversary in a few weeks - she has been married longer than I have been now,

My eyes are itching a bit so I will leave the graphics until morning but this is something that is really firing me up right now

Yes @outlander

I think it would be great to stay inside while the winds are so strong or maybe the stars and planets will get blown off course

I am glad you are prepared in case the power goes out - I am too - I live in suburbia but now and again we still get blackouts

That is great news - about this exercise firing you up - not so much all the anniversaries though @Owlunar - I will have to give you more things to do until August to keep your mind off the anniversaries as much as you can. They are always really hard times so let me know if I can support you in any way going through those - would be happy to be here for you Heart

Wow - 25 years - that is indeed a long time - more than half my life (just) lol

I think we need some spooky decorations - I can do those but would be happy for your input with moon and universe stuff too...

What are your plans for the weekend?

Re: Dec's Guide to the Night Sky for Amateur Astromomers - including Melbourne weather

@Zoe7@outlander

I was thinking of wedding anniversaries and remembered something

I was looking at my parents' wedding photo and there was a little girl of about 4 - my age at the time - and I felt intensely jealous of her and suspiciously asked my mother who the little girl was - she was one of my mother's cousins and she was the flower-girl

I grouched at my mother "Why didn't you have me for your flower-girl?"

"You weren't born then"

"Well - how come you didn't wait?"

I just thought I would share that

Re: Dec's Guide to the Night Sky for Amateur Astromomers - including Melbourne weather

I am going to need to go @Owlunar - not feeling very well and still waiting for meds to kick in for my back and to help me sleep - so I will say goodnight and snuggle up with Toby for a little while. Hope you have a great weekend and happy picture planning Heart
