Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Former-Member I am doing something similar with my personal belongings which i am now unpacking.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@utopia

get that ....answer is spot on..

I started shoving clothes into a large bag about two years ago I think...

the bag does get moved around occasionally....

a few more items have been added over that period...some have been taken back out sadly...

in a pink fit...I moved that bag...a large bag containing bags and another bag containing old coat hangers out....they are still on the floor in the second bedroom with the wardrobe doors still open...

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Former-Member - that's how I operate. Shove them in the spare room.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

How do you “make time” to de clutter when there is so much todo in life and feeling that it’s already all too much... ?
I would be motivated if someone could come over for morning tea/lunch/afternoon tea and just work through 1 area and if they could make items “disappear”. ( I don’t care if they donate them, sell them on eBay, or fetes or give items a second life. I just want to know they are not adding to landfill.., and they feel an item needs to be landfill I’d like the reasoning why and accept it and agree for it to go to landfill.

I kind of have the skill to do lots but not lots of time... so I can think of it, but don’t get to see my ideas through. Are there places which are open on weekends where I can take items to get a 2nd life?

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Hi @Jokilet - I can see how things can get overwhelming. It's only now that I'm not working that I can see how things got so out of control. A second opinion would be great - sort of like a life coach who could help you make the tough decisions about what is needed and what is just clutter. There are a lot of buy / sell groups on facebook and also free sites like ziilch where you list stuff for free and people come and get them. Also some people put stuff on gumtree for free - I picked up some garden rocks a couple of weeks ago. It's not easy to sell second hand stuff - people these days love new things. I guess it's social conditioning - buy, buy, buy = mass consumption and planned obsolescence. I hate waste and I hate throwing things out that still work which is why I can't help myself when I see something useful out on the kerbside collection.

Anyway I had a productive day today - another storage tub emptied and two bags of rubbish to go out. Also cleaned out the coffee mug cupboard - can't believe I have coffee mugs from places I worked twenty years ago. Also found a stack of mouse mats from companies that have long since disappeared. No idea why I've been hanging onto this stuff.... I keep asking myself that question everytime I unearth another useless object. Probably good that I don't have a spare room like you @utopia - it would be a clutter fest. Hope everyone else is well.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Hi @Jokilet and welcome to the forums .... 😊

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Former-Member - problem with a spare room is - is that it becomes full of junk. So if someone comes over - they have to sleep in the lounge room.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Jokilet - I live in a small country town. If I put something out on my nature strip - at any time of the year - it's gone within an hour.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Hi @Jokilet I am almost the opposite of you. Illness has me unable to work and depression has me unable to make use of the time I have.

Good Sammy's do come and collect items. They have strict rules on the quality.

I also have heard that there are buyers on eBay that will pay you a certain amount (not sure how much they offer) per box. You could investigate that as an option?
