Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Thanks @Smc & @Former-Member, it was actually the laundry shed. I got sick of working around the crap, ove stretching my back, dropping stuff... Realised much of whats there wasn't needed for laundry - so that was my deciding rule for what stayed near the washing machine & tub.

Dad has x2 garden sheds out back that i can't get into re stuffed full. I have two bros interested in his tools so thats their job. hehe

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Good move @Former-Member re brothers and the garden sheds .... 👍

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Makes sense to clear what's in the road @Former-Member

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Don't expect anyone to understand it still have lingering fears of mum's verbal tirades and tantrums if i moved anything. Also, ya touch or move one thing - it usually exposes a bigger problem. Like something falling & breaking or spilling or... but mostly conditioning i had to work around mum's choices. I try to imagine her nice side liking what i'm doing now - for dad's sake, not to show her up. I think maybe that angry mum part got left with the flesh. I hope. I can CBT & visualise outcomes all day - but my inner child keeps looking over shoulder waiting for the thump. Crazy i know. Small doses in between the mountains of washing & medical apts & getting enough rest.
One thing in the shed blocking ability to stand at laundry tub was a sewing machine. Weighed a ton - hurt my bacl picking that up. Old as the hills and the cover case is water damaged. Thinking of dumping it on someone else's council-pickup... but its soooo heavy, grr!
Anyway, its starting to look better / less cluttered here. Slowly. It is done up nice here, i'm actually enjoying having a 'real' kitchen ☺

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Former-MemberOld sewing machines are often much desired items. Even if the case is water damaged, I'd suggest putting it on a local buy/swap/sell page. It may be taken off your hands surprisingly fast. Apart from a few "lemons", old sewing machines are like old handtools- solidly made and reliable.

I think I get what you mean about your Mum, but maybe not quite to the extent you feel it. Would it help you if you could refocus on the good things coming from this declutter for your Dad?

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Thanks Smc, good suggestion to try sell, just a hassel. Dad is way past bothered with things / stuff. GetsOannoyed when thingsein the way. Thats one good thing about memory loss - sentiment seems lost. One of my projects since being here is to remove tjings that don't belong to him out of his room, and thing he uses in there - not in the shed etc. Frustrating. Under his bed & top of wardroke was chokers of mums craft stuff. Not fun to cleanup with dog pee soaked through it. Poor mum, this hoarding had a grip on her. One thing i learned that she may not have is knowing i'm 'past it' ... & will never engage all these gonnado projects everywhere. For a long time i couldn't even get up out of bed in the morning. Now arthritis cauding major problems - maybe one hobby will have to be enough. Well, sewing it not good re hoarding either. Oh well. Maybe being here eill help me when i go back and do my place. Haha

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Former-Member, hopeful sewing projects are definitely one of my biggest concentrators of stuff. But I look at all of the unfinished projects that my Mum had, most of which will now never be finished, and it's a strong reminder that one day I'll be beyond completing my own projects too... I'm not to that point yet, and hope that when it approaches I'll recognise it soon enough.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

I have just had a huge incentive to get into some decluttering and make the yard tidy. I looked at a property with mum and dad I law this morning and are going to have our property valued to see if  move is viable.

Just kicking tyres at the moment but looking it is a proposition worth investigating.

The property has a granny flat attached which would be ideal for mum and dad in old age and perfect for S1 in later years .

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Had visitors with children today,  kids toys in shed had been dumped in a bin with other stuff. Got out a couple of toys and cleaned them do the little ones had something to keep them entertained. Have sorted the contents of the bin and now gave toys clean and contained.
