SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Now autumn is here, the cool inspiring a bit of activity outdoors, but slowly plugging away indoors too. Still trying to deal with a couple of things a day.

Hi @Former-Member. Well, we decluttered some of the chocolate in the pantry over the weekend... 😉

We managed a reasonable clean up of the dining table for yesterday's family lunch. The rest of the room is still a big mess, but family is tolerant of that, thankfully.

I'm also working on a "spare room" which was our son's bedroom until he moved out last year. He did a good job of mostly emptying it, except for a few neatly packed boxes, but once he was out our younger daugther decided she was going to spread out into it while she sorted her room. She's mostly done there, and it's looking a lot better than it was, but now I need to get the remainder of her things out of the room. Our bedroom has real problems with damp, so I want to move out of it and into the "spare", then once our current bedroom is emptied out and cleaned we can set it up as a living room that can be an extra bedroom when required. Hoping we can get all that done before it gets too much colder.

Hi @Former-Member and everyone... I've sort of fallen off the decluttering wagon. I've accepted the fact that I'm a hoarder but I know now not to collect stuff that is completely useless. The good thing is I'm confining everything new to the garage and telling myself that it doesn't come into the house. I've also sold a few bits and pieces so I'm not getting worse which is a good thing. I'm on holidays at the moment so taking a break but when I get back I'll get into the decluttering so I can reach my goal to get the fireplace clear by winter. Hope everyone is well.

@Former-Member, I'm finding it easier to decide not to buy things, but getting the things we have into order is challenging. 

Clearing the fireplace is a good goal to have- it's got an inbuilt reward at the end. 🙂 We've got a wood cookstove that tends to get buried over summer, so I've got a similar goal to meet before it gets too much cooler.

So... how's everyone's declutter adventures going?

In the middle of a messy clean up at the moment. We've got an old house with gappy walls, and repairing them properly will be a major job. Despite our patch ups, we get rodents invading, and they'd gotten into a whole lot of clutter that had been *ahem* "put aside for later". So now I'm pulling out the clutter, tossing/recycling the bits which are total rubbish, and I'll need to clean the rest before either passing it on or properly storing it.

Yucky yucky work, but at least I know some junk is gone for good, and I have found a few little treasures on the way through that can now be properly appreciated. A storage tin with a classy retro Parisian street scene on it that I've had since teenage years, another couple of tins that were my Grandmothers (and I should ask my sister if she'd like to have one), and a Spirograph kit, which I'm hoping my 13 y.o. daughter won't have outgrown yet.

Those little discoveries among the chaos are sort of "rewards" that give me a little bit of encouragement to keep tacking the mountain.

We have a huge clean-up to do at our house, and there are bugs invading, so it’s something I have to keep chipping away at, with the help of a cleaner when I can.  I am not there are the moment, but mr has just asked the cleaner to leave and not come back till next week when I return, despite it having all been organised with his knowledge from a couple of weeks ago.  We needed help for the 3 - 4 week’s while we were at home ..... hope I haven’t just lost another cleaner ..... 😔

trying to keep the declutter going , but won 2 prizes at the cent sale and then mum gives me stuff to take home -- ammm not really working at the moment
